Blue Lynx: Reflecting, launching and expanding

Having celebrated our 31st Birthday this year, we reflect on both the successes and the sacrifices that brought us to this point.

In 2019, with team members both old and new, with digitalisation and globalisation in full force, we recognise the need to remain both competitive and current but also how important it is to never lose sight of our roots. Where and when it all began…The Hague, The Netherlands, 1988.

As years pass by, as our client and candidate base grows, as markets change, there are also trusted team members and long term client partnerships that have been carefully cultivated over time that remain and are cherished and respected to this day. We adapt, we learn, we develop, we expand, yet the one constant, the link that remains, is the people. People that work at Blue Lynx. People that work for Blue Lynx. People that apply at Blue Lynx. People that support Blue Lynx. People that service Blue Lynx. People that rely on and trust in Blue Lynx. People that partner with Blue Lynx. People that recommend Blue Lynx. It is you the people that make it work.

As we launch our new Blue Lynx Logo, our new Branding and expand our offices internationally, we have you the people to thank and to share in this momentous occasion. People were a part of Blue Lynx 31 years ago, and they remain very much a part of Blue Lynx today.

Remaining competitive and current is key, and this new Logo, new branding and international office expansion is an integral part of this strategy and of the sustainability and endurance of Blue Lynx. As we roll out this change it is important to embrace our history, recognise our mistakes, celebrate our success and ensure that you, people, are as much a part of Blue Lynx today and in the future, as you were in our past.

We celebrate and embrace the fact that it is you the people that make Blue Lynx work, it is the people who make Blue Lynx the successful, open, safe, equal opportunities, development focused and innovative company that it has been for the past 31 years.

We recognise this wholeheartedly and have recently incorporated this in our branding, slogan and logo – we are proud to shout this out – Our new slogan is ‘people make it work’. Thank you everyone who has been part of this journey and will continue to travel in our endeavors.

Blue Lynx Doet

Last Saturday 16-03-2019, Blue Lynx had the honour and privilege of supporting the local community in The Hague during The Netherlands national yearly volunteer day organised by Oranjefonds, NL Doet.

Stadsboerderij Jacobahof,  a tranquil, friendly, community run and supported children’s petting zoo, farm and playground is where 18 of our international, multilingual colleagues spent their free day. Travelling from Amsterdam, Leiden, Ypenburg and various other locations within the Hague, our multinational team members with roots in India, Canada, America, Brazil, Portugal, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Holland became Jacobahof colleagues, friends and local citizens for the day.

Projects included: building a new jungle gym for the friendly goats, relocating, preparing and planting the flower and vegetable gardens, creating a willow tree children’s playhouse, painting the beekeepers house and learning about honey, and for a lucky few even tasting the award winning golden gooey goodness, building new chicken coops and flower boxes and laying stepping stones and planting grass.

It was a fun filled, collaborative day, and despite the dreary weather, spirits were high and laughs were many.

Blue Lynx was joined by other members of the community, donors, members of the local government and many happy smiling children enjoying the animals, playground and even helping us out every now and then, for example, by  transporting bags of soil on their tricycles or playing hide and go seek to offer us a much needed distraction in order to rest our weary backs (well for us older team members at least 😊 ).

Lunch and refreshments were prepared by a local resident, and were delicious. Soup on a cold day always hits the spot. And home made brownies and pigs in a blanket were a satisfying snack between some heavy lifting.

Most importantly on this day, Blue Lynx was able to work together as a team, for a notable cause in their community. Supporting local organisations, and incorporating important causes like animals, the environment, recycling, education and youth, all causes both Blue Lynx management and employees are passionate about. Giving back, reaching out and being socially responsible are part of our company core values and something we as an organisation but also as individuals prioritise, not only on a day such as NL Doet, when all of the Netherlands is reaching out, but the entire year through, whether it be volunteering or donating time or advice, taking part in charity events, acting as a guest speaker or panellist or donating monetarily. One person can make a difference and our goal is to make a difference one person and one community at a time.

Blue Lynx thanks Stadsboerderij Jacobahof for their hospitality, great event coordination and for allowing us to be a part of their volunteer day. We will definitely be back to visit in the spring, but rather than wielding shovels and rakes, we’ll bring a picnic basket and a soccer ball and simply enjoy this beautiful gem of a city garden in the heart of The Hague just around the corner from our Blue Lynx Head Office.

“The expert in anything was once a beginner.”

Internships, traineeships, work experience, young graduate programs; there are many expressions or titles, but one thing all of these words have in common is learning.

We at Blue Lynx pride ourselves on learning. This comes in many shapes and forms and involves not only new staff or beginners but also seasoned professionals in our team. Learning takes place every day here at Blue Lynx. Whether it be in the capacity of sharing knowledge or offering advice, lending a helping hand on a difficult case or situation, or discussing with a new client or researching a new vacancy with a discipline that is outside of our normal scope, we learn every day. This can be by listening, experiencing, talking, reading or more formally in a classical training session or course, hosted by one of our colleagues, clients, suppliers or a third party. Whatever the avenue, we take every opportunity to develop ourselves and those around us, enabling us to better serve our clients, our candidates and most importantly each other. We thrive on sharing knowledge and every opportunity we get to engage with motivated young people enables us to share our knowledge with them, we grab onto it and savour it.

That’s why Blue Lynx has been engaging with local educational institutions for many years and we have built solid relationships with some of the top schools both at MBO, HBO and University levels. We encourage interns to take part in our work experience program and are a recognised internship organisation here in The Netherlands. Whether it be a first-year student looking to spend a few hours to learn about recruitment, or a Masters student finalising their thesis looking to spend the last 6 months of their studies applying their theory to practice in the sales team; we both encourage and welcome with open arms these ambitious, eager, motivated students to join and grow and most importantly learn in our team. Sometimes it is important to sit back and remember that we were all beginners at one point. We all started off with a clean slate and were given a chance. We like to be that chance, that foot in the door, that opportunity.

At Blue Lynx, we also believe in nurturing these opportunities and therefore we always strive to where possible, promote and develop from within. We focus on retention and reward and that’s why several of our interns have gone on to become full-time staff members and remain with us even today: Jillian van Duuren, Teodora Simeonova, Sabrin Abduraham to name a few. These colleagues have proven their value from day one and we have learned as much from them as they have from us.

With good communication, the right motivation, an eagerness and willingness to succeed, and an open mind, the learning opportunities at Blue Lynx are endless. For more information about an internship please contact hr@bluelynx.com

Why December Might be the Best Time of Year to Get Hired

With the holiday season right around the corner, you may have decided to put your job search on hold until after the New Year.

But before you get completely into the holiday mood you may want to consider this: December might actually be the best time of year to be searching for a job.

Here are three great reasons why:

1. Less competition
Unsurprisingly, many people have December full of holiday plans, so if you apply now there is a lot less competition for these open job vacancies – and yes, there are vacancies open.

With fewer people applying for jobs, it’s ultimately easier to stand out from the crowd. Don’t make the mistake of thinking December is the month for slowing down—this could actually be the month your job hunting efforts pay off the most.

2. Many companies have their budgets in place
Apart from the job openings that exist simply based on need (it’s not like companies suddenly don’t need employees in December). It’s not uncommon for companies to have their recruitment budget for the New Year in place (In October and November a lot of companies secure their next year’s recruitment budget). Some may even have money left over from their 2018 budgets.

This means new positions still have to be filled and hiring decisions to be made, and naturally, these positions still get posted. So December is a great time to check out our vacancies.

3. You get more attention from recruiters
The best part of applying for jobs in December is all the extra attention you may get. Recruiters also experience the “holiday mood slow down” as lots of candidates leave their job applications to the New Year. So in December recruiters get even more excited than usual when an interesting person, like you, comes along.

This applicant “holiday mood slow-down” means recruiters have a bit more time to spend looking over your CV and that is good news for you.
